This site is dedicated to the memory of Win and Richard Stockwell.

Win Stockwell loved music and was a talented singer and pianist. In the 1940’s and 1950’s she sang in the renowned Huddersfield Choral Society and was a member when they sang at the opening of the Royal Festival Hall in 1951 and also at the Edinburgh Festival of the same year. Win travelled to Europe singing in Vienna, Berlin and Brussels and when she later moved to the south west she continued her many musical activities including teaching piano, running a choir, acting as an accompanist for various drama productions and the local ballet school. She was an inspiring teacher and passed her love of music on to others - two of Win’s pupils have studied at degree level and are now pursuing a career in music. She was full of life and her enthusiasm for music was infectious. Win encouraged her son Richard to play the piano in later life and he spent many enjoyable evenings playing a variety of music including jazz and classical pieces. Richard also took great pleasure in playing the drums and would often accompany Win on the piano. According to family and friends they made a very entertaining duo! Both Richard and Win enjoyed listening to music; Richard was particularly fond of jazz and found music a great comfort and support. Win's daughter Jean (sister of Richard) has kindly offered to collect donations for Youth Music on their behalf because music was such an essential part of their lives and they understood its ability to bring people together.
